Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release
Hamilton, Ontario - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats addressed offence, defence and special teams by adding four Canadian players in this afternoon's CFL Canadian Draft.
After trading their third round (12th overall) selection to the Edmonton Eskimos in exchange for the 19th and 27th overall picks, the Ticats made Laval fullback Samuel Fournier their first pick of the draft.
Fournier, a 6-0, 238-pound native of Lacollo, Quebec carried the ball nine times for 42 yards and three touchdowns with the Rouge et Or last season while adding seven receptions for 68 yards.
The Ticats then acquired the 22nd overall selection from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in exchange for the 28th overall pick and a negotiation list player. With the 22nd selection, the Black and Gold chose Manitoba defensive tackle Eddie Steele.
Steele, a 6-2, 280-pound native of Winnipeg, Manitoba was named a Canada West and CIS Second Team All-Star last season after posting 27 tackles and one fumble recovery with the Bisons in 2008.
With the 27th overall pick, Hamilton added Duke DB Chris Rwabukamba.
Rwabukama, a 5-10, 175-pound native of Windsor, Ontario made 46 tackles (36 solo), two tackles for losses, one quarterback sack and blocked one kick with the Blue Devils last season. He is expected to return to Duke for his final season of NCAA eligibility this fall.
Finally, with their fifth round selection (36th overall), the Ticats picked St. Mary's kicker/punter Justin Palardy.
Palardy, a 5-11, 200-pound native of Truro, Nova Scotia connected on 23-of-27 field goal attempts, totaled 2,405 yards on 65 punts and averaged 50.6 yards on 38 kickoffs last season.
Note: The Tiger-Cats forfeited their first round selection by choosing Weber State Offensive Lineman Zac Carlson in last year's supplemental draft. The Ticats traded their third and sixth round selections to the Toronto Argonauts in separate trades prior to the Draft.
