(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos today acquired non-import defensive tackle Clinton Wayne and non-import defensive end Patrick Kabongo from the Ottawa Renegades in exchange for Edmonton's 1st and 2nd round selections in the 2005 CFL Canadian College Draft and the rights to Korey Banks, a defensive back from Mississippi State.
A 4-year CFL veteran, Wayne has spent the last three seasons with Ottawa. Drafted by Calgary in the 2000 CFL Canadian Draft (3rd round, 21st overall), Wayne appeared in 10 games for the Stampeders in 2001.He was selected by the Renegades in the 2002 CFL Expansion Draft. The Ohio State product has appeared in 54 games over the past three seasons. In 2003, Wayne posted a career high 30 defensive tackles. Wayne's older brother Patrick played 117 games for the Ottawa Rough Riders (1987â1992, 1994).
Patrick Kabongo was a 2-year starter at the University of Nebraska. He signed as an undrafted free agent April 26, 2004 with the NFL's Detroit Lions and attended their 2004 training camp. After his release, Kabongo signed with Ottawa and was added to the practice roster. Born June 27, 1979 in Kinshasa, Zaire, Patrick's family moved to Montreal when he was 4 years old.
College/Personal: Posted 35 tackles in 2003 with Nebraska. Started 7 of 14 games for the âHuskers in 2002 and finished second among D-linemen with 62 tackles, including 9 TFL and 2 sacks. Patrick was a two time member of Nebraska's Brooks Berringer Citizenship Team and in 2003 was awarded the Brooks Berringer Memorial Scholarship. Speaks French and English.
