Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA â The Ottawa Renegades announced a trade Tuesday, one that sends defensive lineman Clinton Wayne and the negotiation list rights of Patrick Kabongo to the Edmonton Eskimos. In exchange, the Renegades will receive Edmonton's first and second round picks in the 2005 CFL Canadian College draft, as well as the negotiation list rights to Korey Banks, a defensive back currently with the Miami Dolphins.
Ottawa's non-import base will continue to develop next season with the additional draft picks. Both Renegades first round selections in 2004 have played this season (Ibrahim Khan and David Azzi). Three of Ottawa's top four picks in the 2002 Canadian College draft (offensive lineman Alexandre Gauthier, running back Mike Vilimek and punter Pat Fleming) are presently on the Renegades active roster.
"Admittedly, this was a complicated situation based on the public knowledge that Clinton was about to be traded. That said, I believe we have positioned ourselves to secure two quality, young Canadians and that bodes very well for the future of our club," said Renegades General Manager Eric Tillman. "Additionally, in Korey Banks we have acquired the rights to a quality defensive back."
In Banks, the Renegades get the negotiation list rights to a Mississippi State University product who has been described as a solid cover cornerback from his time with the Bulldogs. He is a cousin of Renegades quarterback Brad Banks and also a relative of Arizona Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin and Montreal Alouettes running back Autry Denson. Korey Banks spent much of 2003 on the Miami Dolphins practice roster.
Wayne was a member of the original Renegades and played two-and-a-half seasons with Ottawa after beginning his career in Calgary. The Toronto native will join Kabongo, who spent part of 2004 as an offensive lineman on the Renegades practice roster, in Edmonton.
"All of us want to thank Clinton for his contributions to the club," added Tillman. "We wish he and Patrick the very best."
The Renegades are in action this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Montreal Alouettes at Frank Clair Stadium. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at http://www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 613-755-1166.
