(Calgary) – Today Calgary Stampeders' General Manager and Head Coach Matt Dunigan announced the free agent signing of Quarterback Tommy Denison.

Entering his first season with the Stampeders ... originally signed on August 31, 2004 ... Denison attended the Winnipeg Blue Bombers training camp in 2004 ... he played in the 1st pre-season game vs the Stampeders completing 4 of 6 passes for 46 yards.

College

2003

Denison won his 2nd Hec Crighton Award as the best player in the CIS football after another remarkable campaign ... he was also the OUA MVP and an OUA First-Team All-Star ... Denison was the CIS Football Player of the Week on offence after engineering a dramatic 4th quarter comeback victory against the Western Ontario Mustangs (47-35 win, Queen's @ Western Ontario, Sept. 12, 2003) ... Denison threw four touchdown passes in 12 minutes, as his Golden Gaels side scored 30 points in that final frame ... he threw four touchdown passes in a game on four occasions in 2003, in games against York, Western Ontario, Guelph and Windsor.

He set a new OUA record for TD passes in a single-season with 24 ... ending the season with a 64.9% completion rate, Denison completed 60% or more of his passes in every regular-season game ... he set a new CIS record for pass completions with 203 ... he led the CIS in passing yards (2,907) and set a new Queen's career passing record of 7,592 yards – the 6th best total in CIS history ... he also hold four of the 13 best single game passing totals in OUA history.

2002

Denison had a dream year in 2002 ... he won his first Hec Crighton award as the top player in CIS football, earning CIS first-team All-Star honors along the way ... he also took home OUA MVP and OUA First-Team All-Star laurels .. he won the Johnny Evans Memorial Trophy as the Queen's football MVP ... he set a new CIS record for passing yards in a season with 3,001, bettering his mark of 2,823 yards set by Greg Vavra of the Calgary Dinosaurs in 1983 ... he set a OUA record for single game passing yards with 561 against Western Ontario Mustangs in the OUA semi-final (Queen's vs Western Ontario, Nov. 2, 2002).

Tommy completed an amazing 80.6% of his passes in a game against the Toronto Varsity Blues (Queen's vs Toronto, Sept. 28, 2002) .. in that contest, Denison went 25 of 31 for 408 yards and five touchdowns, despite not even playing three full quarters ... Denison twice earned the CIS player of the Week Award (Week 8 & Week 10) and twice won the OUA player of the Week Award (Week 7 & Week 8).

2001

Denison shared the quarterback duties with team-mate Craig Spear at the start of the season before becoming the full-time starter in Week 5 ... in his four weeks as a full-time pivot, Denison posted numbers that placed him 2nd in the OUA and 6th in the CIS for passing yards ... he was the OUA player of Week 7 after leading Queen's to a 30-8 victory over Wilfrid Laurier (Queen's @ Wilfrid Laurier, Oct. 6, 2001).

1999 – Mansfield University Mountaineers

Denison spent one year playing college football for the Mansfield (PA) University Mountaineers ... as the starting quarterback, Denison completed 68 of 144 pass attempts for 735 yards, six touchdowns and 10 interceptions ... Denison, who played at Mansfield for former Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Urban Bowman, also added three rushing touchdowns.

1998 – Graceland Yellow jackets

Denison played his first year of college football for Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa ... the Yellow jackets competed in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

Noteworthy

Denison played high school football at Beamsville, ON leading his team to two city of St. Catharine's Football Championships ... he was a two-time First-Team Great Lakes Football League All-Star and Most Valuable Player in 1997.
