Edmonton Elks News Release

Edmonton, AB – The 2003 CFL West Division All-Star team has a distinctly "Green and Gold" look this year. Edmonton has placed eight players on the team, tops in the West Division.

OFFENCE:

Mike Pringle (RB) - A six time CFL All-Star and seven time East All-Star, the future Hall of Famer picks up his first CFL West selection in his illustrious 12 year career. After sitting out most of 2002 with a knee injury, Pringle returned with a vengeance, finishing with 273 carries for 1374 yards, a league leading 13 rushing TDs and 2 receiving touchdowns. The CFL's second all-time leading rusher, Pringle had five 100+ yds rushing games this season and a CFL leading 70 in his career.

Terry Vaughn (SB) - Since arriving in the CFL in 1995, the perennial 1,000+ yds receiver has been a CFL West All-Star eight consecutive seasons. Vaughn posted a career best 106 catches for 1,558 yards and 7 TDs in 2003. His 106 receptions tied a single season Eskimo team record set in 1990.

Ed Hervey (WR) - The CFL's fastest player has been named a CFL West All-Star for the second time in his five year Eskimo career. With 72 catches for 1022 yards and 7 touchdowns, the product of USC finished second among Eskimo receivers and 8th in the CFL in 2003.

Dan Comiskey (OG) - A seven year veteran who plays a key role on the CFL's best offensive line. Game in and game out, "Commie" and his O-line mates provided excellent protection and gave up the CFL's fewest sacks (25). Edmonton's nominee for the 2003 Tom Pate award for community service, Comiskey serves as the honourary chairperson for the Canadian Cancer Society and is a popular member of the Eskimos Stay in School program.

Bruce Beaton (OT) - Tough, smart and durable, the pride of Port Hood, Nova Scotia is a CFL West All-Star for the fourth straight year. Beaton's remarkable "iron man" streak continues. Dating back to 1995, Beaton has never missed a game. He was the 2002 CFL West finalist for CFL Outstanding Lineman, as well as a CFL West All-Star.

DEFENCE:

Donny Brady (DB) - Opposing receivers got to see a lot of Donny Brady in 2003. The CFL leader in forced fumbles (7), Brady emerged as a bona fide CFL star this season, finishing with 38 DTs, 13 STTs, 6 INTs, 4 PKDs, 1 fumble recovery.

Shannon Garrett (DB) - A steady veteran who makes few mistakes, Garrett picks up the second CFL West All-Star selection of his seven year CFL career. In '03, Garrett finished with 48 DTs, 3 INTs, 5 PKDs, 1 STT.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

Sean Fleming (P) - A 12 year Eskimo, Fleming gets the nod as the CFL West's top punter for the second time in his career.

The Edmonton Eskimos are defending the turf at Commonwealth Stadium. The Eskimos finished first in the CFL West Division with a record of 13-5-0 and will host the CFL West Division Championship Sunday, November 9th at Commonwealth Stadium, kick-off at 5:00 pm.
