Toronto Argonauts News Release

The Toronto Argonauts and B.C. Lions should match up well in the East Division semi-final this coming Sunday. Toronto finished with a 9-9 record in 2003 and the Lions finished up at 11-7. But head-to-head the two were fairly even. The two teams split their two-game series in 2003 by a combined total of 5 points. The Lions beat Toronto 30-27 at home on July 4 and lost to the Argos 28-26 in Toronto on August 1. Both games were decided in overtime.

Toronto recorded 473 points scored for and allowed 433, while the Lions rang up 531 points scored for and allowed 430 against. B.C. will be led by quarterback Dave Dickenson, a finalist in the Rogers AT&T Player Award Oustanding Player category. Toronto will be lead by quarterback Damon Allen, a former Lion. Levingston finished 1st in punt return yardage and 2nd in kickoff return yardage. He also scored a combined 5 touchdowns on returns. B.C. is led by Frank Cutolo, the West representative in the Outstanding Rookie department. Cutolo had a superb year, finishing 4th in punt return yardage, 5th in kickoff return yardage, and 4th in missed field goal return yardage.Winner of the East semi-final will travel to Montreal to take on the Alouettes in the East Division Championship presented by WestJet on November 9 at 4:00 PM ET. This marks the second straight year that a team has crossed into the East for the playoffs. The first crossover took place in 1997 with the B.C. Lions making an appearance in Montreal, losing the East semi-final 45-35 to the Alouettes. Last year's crossover by Saskatchewan was the second such time the crossover was used.
