Error Costly as Thunder Fall, 4-3

(Akron, OH)- Akron used an unearned run in the 8th Inning to go on and beat the Trenton Thunder, 4-3, on Tuesday night in Eastern League play. The loss came despite three hits apiece by Thunder OF's Matt Carson and Justin Christian.

Trenton (45-23) held a 2-1 lead through four innings, despite leaving nine runners on base. The Thunder loaded the bases off starter Shawn Nottingham in each of the first three innings, but managed just two runs on solo homers by Carson and 1B Cody Ehlers. The lead ran to 3-1 in the 5th Inning. Trenton loaded the bases off reliever Joe Ness, but got just one run on a sacrifice fly by CF Brett Gardner. In all, the Thunder left 12 runners on base.

But Akron struggled as well against Thunder starter Jeff Marquez, who left after five innings with a 3-2 lead. But Akron tied the game in the 7th Inning on a single from RF Brian Barton and a double by 1B Michael Aubrey against Thunder reliever Michael Gardner. Then, the Aeros (40-28) took the lead as SS Asdrubal Cabrera tripled with two outs in the eighth. After a walk, Barton reached base on an error by Thunder 3B Aarom Baldiris, allowing Cabrera to score the go-ahead run.

Randy Newsom came of for a scoreless 9th Inning and his 6th save. He saved it for Jim Ed Warden (1-0) who tossed a scoreless 8th Inning. Gardner (2-2) took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) in three innings of relief.

The series continues on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. Alan Horne (6-3, 2.50) starts for the Thunder against Akron's Chuck Lofgren (6-4, 3.66).
