Cannnizaro Returns To Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Class AA Affiliate of the N.Y. Yankees, announced today that INF Andy Cannizaro has been sentto Trenton from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A). To make room for Cannizaro, C J.T. LaFountain has been transferred from Trenton to Staten Island (New York-Penn League).

Cannizaro has not appeared in a game this season for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He injured his back during Spring Training and has spent the entire season on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Disabled List. During 2006, Cannizaro spent the majority of the season with Columbus (Triple-A) and also made his major league debut for the Yankees in September. He hit .276 with three home runs and 32 RBI in 116 games, including 32 doubles, which was fifth in the International League. Cannizaro had a .250 BA for the Yankees in 13 games with one home run, which came off Tampa Bay's Jon Switzer on September 25th.

Cannizaro has spent parts of three seasons with the Thunder from 2003-05. In 2003, he hit .276 with one home run and 39 RBI in 108 games for Trenton. During 2004, he had a career best .314 BA with three home runs and 44 RBI in 85 games. Cannizaro only appeared in 54 games for the Thunder during 2005, before being called up to Columbus for the remainder of the season. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the seventh round of the 2001 draft.

LaFountain, a University of Louisville product, has appeared in five games over four different stints on the Trenton roster this season. He has a .214 BA (3 x 14), including two hits and two RBI against Reading on Friday June 8th. In 2006, LaFountain batted .255 with 1 HR and 10 RBI for Charleston (Low-A) of the South Atlantic League.

The Thunder start a three-city 11-game road trip in Akron tonight at 7:05 p.m. RHP Jeff Marquez (8-3, 2.64) starts for Trenton against Akron's LHP Shawn Nottingham (5-4, 4.48) Trenton returns to Waterfront Park on Saturday June 30th against the Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
