Akron RubberDucks News Release
The Erie SeaWolves scored in four different innings to down the Akron RubberDucks 7-1 on Sunday afternoon and split the six-game series at UPMC Park.
Turning Point
Akron once again threaten to rally late in the game after Cesar Idrogo singled to put runners on first and second with two outs in the seventh. Petey Halpin worked a walk to load the bases. But Erie reliever Yaya Chentouf got a groundout right to the second baseman to escape the jam.
Mound Presence
Will Dion worked around traffic during his start for Akron. Erie worked the left-hander for four walks, four hits and four runs over his 3.1 innings. Dion was able to limit the damage by striking out three SeaWolves and only allowing multiple runs in one inning. Matt Turner followed tossing 2.1 scoreless innings while striking out three. Mason Hickman allowed three runs (two earned) over an inning and a third. Jordan Jones struck out the side in a perfect inning of relief.
Duck Tales
Akron was able to crack the scoreboard against Erie in the top of the fourth. Jose Tena opened the inning with a single to extend his season-long hitting streak to eight games. After a walk by Angel Martinez and a flyout, the RubberDucks had runners at first and second with one out. Aaron Bracho singled to left-center to score Tena and cut the Erie lead to 3-1. Akron left nine on base and was 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
