Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
READING, PA - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (12-14, 47-48) won another nail-biter Sunday evening, defeating the Reading Fightin Phils 4-3 at FirstEnergy Stadium. Binghamton won their fourth game in a row, took five of six games in the series, and have won eight of their last 11 contests.
Binghamton was propelled by a hot start in the first inning against Zach Haake (0-1). The second batter of the game, Rowdey Jordan, blasted a home run over the right field wall to put the Ponies up 1-0. It is Jordan's 11th home run of the season and sixth at FirstEnergy Stadium this season. He now has 12 RBI against the Fightins in 12 games this year.
The next batter JT Schwartz would double off the centerfield wall. Jose Peroza followed with an RBI double up against the left field wall to make it 2-0. The next batter Brandon McIlwain laced an RBI single to center to bring home Peroza and make it 3-0 to complete the three-run frame.
With the Ponies up 3-1 in the fifth, Schwartz lined an RBI single to center to score Jordan and put the Ponies ahead 4-1. Schwartz finished 3-4 and now has five hits and four RBIs in three games since being activated off the Injured List.
Reading (11-15, 39-55) scored two in the sixth on a Cam Cannon solo home run and an RBI single from Jhailyn Ortiz to cut the Binghamton lead to 4-3.
José Chacin (3-5) allowed three runs over five and two thirds' innings to earn the win. Junior Santos pitched an inning and a third of scoreless relief, Hunter Parsons pitched a perfect eighth, and Wilkin Ramos closed out the ninth for his first save of the year with Binghamton.
In the ninth, Ramos struck out Cody Roberts for the first out. He then walked Max McDowell but got Pedro Martinez to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.
