Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Erie bats went cold on Saturday night at The Diamond as they were shut out by the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2-0.
Both starting pitchers were on point in their outings. Richmond's Kai Wei Teng hurled four scoreless innings with no walks and eight strikeouts in a no-decision effort. Erie got a pair of baserunners on in the fourth inning against Teng but could not plate a run.
Erie's Sawyer Gipson-Long was perfect through the first four innings. He walked Brett Auerbach to open the fifth and retired the next two batters before giving up an RBI double to Hayden Cantrelle for a 1-0 Richmond lead.
Richmond added to the lead in the seventh against Erie reliever Adam Wolf. Cantrelle singled with two outs and was doubled home by Carter Williams.
Offensively for Erie, Wenceel Perez, Colt Keith and Mario Feliciano each had two hits in the losing effort. Keith extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games, the longest hit streak by a SeaWolves batter this season. He's hit safely in 12 of his 13 games played.
Nick Swiney (2-0) earned the win for Richmond in relief. He tossed four scoreless innings, allowing four hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Gipson-Long (2-2) was the tough luck loser. He allowed a run on one hit with a walk and four strikeouts in five innings. He's allowed just two runs over his last two starts, spanning 10 innings of work.
Evan Gates worked a scoreless ninth, earning his second save of the season.
