Dayton Bombers News Release
The Dayton Bombers, who "turned back the clock" for a special event at Hobart Arena in Troy this past Wednesday, January 28, will return to the Nutter Center for a pair of âspecial event' weekend home games against Northern Division rivals. The Nutter Center games on Friday and Saturday will be preceded by a Wednesday trek along I-75 to prepare for a game against the Cincinnati Cyclones (7:30 p.m.). Below is a look at the games ahead for the Dayton Bombers this week:
Wednesday, 2/4/2004 @ Cincinnati Cyclones (7:30 p.m./ 7:15 p.m. broadcast time on www.daytonbombers.com in association with www.broadcastmonsters.com)
The Bombers are 4-3-1 in games played against their frequent I-75 competitors this season and are 2-2-1 in the tilts at the U.S. Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati. The Bombers topped the Cyclones 3-2 on the strength of a 31-save performance by Andrew Penner on November 29. On December 21, Penner again was solid, stopping 34 shots en route to a 3-2 overtime victory over the âClones. Martin Paquet tallied the game winner for the Bombers on the power play in the extra session.
Friday, February 6, 2004 vs. Wheeling (7:00 p.m.)- Enjoy the fun of the Cajun celebration by participating in the Bombers' 2nd Annual Mardi Gras Night at the Nutter Center. The first 1000 fans will receive a set of beads. Fans can also take advantage with a McDonald's Big Mac Power Play Pack at this game (Two tickets, Two Bombers' hats, and Two Big Macs for just $25). In addition, the first 500 women will receive a box of chocolates, courtesy of Esther Price, as part of Ladies Night at the Nutter Center. The Bombers are searching for their first victory of the season against the Nailers. The Bombers are 0-7 (0-2 at the Nutter Center) in 2003-2004 against Wheeling. The Bombers will have two more home meetings against the Nailers this season (3/19 & 3/28). The March 28 game marks the Bombers' lone Sunday contest this season that starts at 6:00 p.m. All others begin at 4:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 7, 2004 vs. Toledo (7:00 p.m.)- 1000 Adult T-Shirts will be given away at this game, sponsored by Pepsi, the Kettering Medical Center, Ohio Lottery, and Wright-Patt Credit Union. RECAP OF LAST WEEK'S BOMBERS' ACTION:
January 30, 2004- BOMBERS 1 @ Trenton 4- The Trenton Titans scored three first period power play goals, a pair of which came in a one-minute span, en route to a 4-1 win over the Dayton Bombers at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey Friday night. Fraser Clair scored the Bombers' lone goal, a second period short-handed tally assisted by Chad Theuer. However, the three-goal Trenton opening period spurt, featuring two goals by Matt Zultek and one by Chris Pittman, was the difference. Mathieu Brunelle scored into an empty net with less than 16 seconds to play.
January 31, 2004- BOMBERS 2 @ Wheeling 8- The Wheeling Nailers struck four times in a 5:08 sequence spanning late in the first period and early in the second in an 8-2 triumph over the Dayton Bombers at the Wheeling Civic Center Saturday night. The Bombers erased a 1-0 first period deficit by scoring twice in a 2:59 stretch. Fraser Clair, who scored a short-handed goal in Friday's game at Trenton, won a face-off back to defenseman Jason Crain, who blasted a shot past goalie Tyler MacKay. Moments later, Clair deflected defenseman Sean Connolly's power play shot into the net to give the Bombers a 2-1 lead. Chad Theuer also assisted on the goal. However, the Nailers scored the game's last seven goals to prevail. Bogdan Rudenko tallied twice for Wheeling, while J.F. Dufour, Steve Crampton, Mario LaRocque, Brendan Hodge, Jake Ortmeyer, and Dan Ennis also converted.
February 1, 2004- BOMBERS 1 @ Reading 8- The Reading Royals used two first period power play goals to help build a lead they would never relinquish in an 8-1 victory over the Dayton Bombers in a Super Bowl Sunday ECHL matinee played at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania Sunday afternoon. Judd Medak and Brad Church scored man-advantage goals 2:38 apart in the first period to give the Royals a 2-0 lead. Scooter Smith, Lars Pettersen (2), Nick Lent, Peter Hay, and David Masse also tallied for Reading. Brian Ridolfi scored the lone Bombers' goal, his second of the season with assists from Alex Johnstone and Nate Kiser.
