Beaumont, TX (February 2, 2004) â The Texas Wildcatters split their two-game weekend homestand, defeating the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Friday and falling to the Mississippi Sea Wolves on Saturday. On Friday, five different Wildcatters (Martin Masa, Ryan Fultz, Aaron MacInnis, Ashlee Langdone, and Tony Lawrence) scored in the 5-2 win over the Ice Pilots. Wildcatters netminder Davis Parley earned his 11th win of the season, turning away 19 of the 21 shots he faced.
On Saturday, the Nextel Cup returned to Ford Arena as Texas hosted Mississippi for game seven of the 15-game series. The Sea Wolves skated to a 4-2 victory and now lead the series six games to one. Newly acquired Ryan Fultz, who joined the team January 27, picked up his second goal in as many games for the Wildcatters. Wildcatters center Brian Passmore also tacked on a goal in the defeat. Goaltender Mark Scally, who replaced Davis Parley after the first period, had 24 saves.
Player of the Week Nomination: Aaron MacInnis recorded two points (1g-1a) and was a +4 over the weekend. The Nova Scotia native tallied a shorthanded, game-winning goal against Pensacola on Friday.
Goaltender of the Week Nomination: Mark Scally turned away 24 of the 25 shots he faced in his relief effort against Mississippi on Saturday. Scally had a 1.50 goals against average with a .960 save percentage.
Player of the Month Nomination: Forward Lukas Smital ended the month a +3 with 11 points (8g-3a) in ten games.
Goaltender of the Month Nomination: Netminder Davis Parley was 5-7-1 in the month of January. Parley posted a .908 save percentage with 443 saves on 488 shots.
Fultz Fits Right In: Newly acquired forward Ryan Fultz wasted no getting his name on the score sheet. The 5'11", 200-pound Fultz tallied two goals in his first two games with the team.
Reaching New Heights:
- Friday's three-goal victory over Pensacola tied the largest margin of victory for the Wildcatters this season. Texas defeated the Ice Pilots 4-1 on November 22 and the Columbia Inferno 6-3 on January 3.
- The Wildcatters ended January with their best record for a single month, posting a 5-8-2 record.
Producing Point Man: Wildcatters defenseman Rob Guinn has recorded 10 points (1g-9a) in his past 10 games.
