
Energy Use Overtime to Beat Fort Wayne 120-113

DES MOINES, IA, January 16, 2011- Chris Lofton scored a team high 31 points as the Iowa Energy defeated the Ft. Wayne Mad Ants 120-113 Sunday in Des Moines.
The two Eastern Conference rivals played a back and forth game that included 22 ties and 18 lead changes.
Iowa trailed by four with 1:18 remaining in the 4th quarter when Energy guard Curtis Stinson was fouled. Stinson made one of two free throws to cut the lead to three. After a Ft. Wayne miss, Stinson made two more free throws to make it a one point game.
Ft. Wayne's Walker Russell Jr. made a pair of free throws to extend the lead back to three with 41.9 seconds remaining. With the clock winding down, the Energy's Courtney Sims was fouled as he made a layup. Sims' free throw tied the game at 109-109 with 30.2 seconds left.
With under ten seconds remaining, Ft. Wayne's Oliver Lafayette missed a 3-pointer. A loose ball foul was called on Ft. Wayne, sending Sims to the line once again. Sims drilled both free throws with only 5.7 seconds remaining to put Iowa up 111-109.
Ft. Wayne's Chris Kramer took the ensuing throw in and scored on a layup while getting fouled. Kramer's free throw, with only 2.7 seconds remaining, was no good, sending the game to overtime.
Lofton and Othyus Jeffers scored the first four points of overtime to give the Energy a 115-111 lead. After Jeffers' bucket, Mad Ant coach Joey Meyer was called for a technical foul. Lofton made the ensuing free throw to give Iowa a commanding five point lead. Iowa would hold Ft. Wayne to only two points in the overtime period, giving Iowa the 120-113 win.
Stinson finished with a triple double (19 points, 11 rebounds, 14 assists) and Jeffers finished with 26 points and 16 rebounds.
Lafayette led Ft. Wayne with 33 points on the night.
