Tulsa's Larry Owens Signs with San Antonio

NEW YORK, Jan. 16, 2011 - The San Antonio Spurs signed forward Larry Owens of the Tulsa 66ers to a 10-day contract today for the second GATORADE Call-Up of the 2010-11 NBA Development League season. Owens' call-up increases the number of current NBA players with NBA D-League experience to 71.

Owens (6-7, 210) started in all 23 games he has appeared in this season for the 66ers, leading the team to a Western Conference-best 18-6 record. Owens averaged 12.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 31.1 minutes per game. He's scored in double figures 18 times, including a season-high 22 points versus Iowa on Nov. 26.

Last season Owens started all 50 games for the 66ers, averaging 15.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 steals in 36.3 minutes. Owens joined Tulsa this season as a returning player. He's also played professionally in France and Belgium.

Owens spent two seasons at Yavapai (Ariz.) Community College (2001-03), before transferring to Oral Roberts University where he posted career averages of 10.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists. As a senior, Owens was named to the All-MCC First Team and was the All-MCC Defensive Player of the Year.

Owens is expected to join the Spurs and be available when the team hosts the Denver Nuggets tonight at the AT&T Center.
