Energy Roll Past Canton 96-86

DES MOINES, IA. Mar. 4, 2012- The 2011 NBA D-League Champion Iowa Energy rallied past the Canton Charge 96-86 Sunday afternoon. The win puts Iowa one game ahead of Springfield in the NBA D-League's Eastern Conference.

Canton jumped out to a 47-44 lead at halftime behind ten early points from guard Kyle Gibson. The Energy, who lost two games early in the week at Canton, opened the 3rd quarter with a 7-0 run, capped by a Patrick Ewing Jr. 3-pointer, gave Iowa a 51-47 lead. Minutes later, with Iowa up 57-51, Canton scored ten straight points to take a four point lead. In a game that saw 11 lead changes, the Energy responded late in the quarter as Moses Ehambe drilled a 3-pointer to give Iowa a 70-68 lead heading into the final stanza.

Guard Mike Efevberha opened the 4th quarter with a 3-pointer and Ewing Jr. added a jump shot to extend the Energy led to seven at 75-68. But each time the Energy made a run, the Charge responded. Point guard T.J. Campbell scored a pair of buckets and Gibson drained a 3-pointer to give Canton a 79-77 lead.

With the game in the balance, Iowa's defense stepped up. The Energy stopped the Charge from scoring on six consecutive possessions midway through the 4th quarter while scoring nine straight points to take a commanding 86-79 lead with 3:57 left in the game.

Canton narrowed the lead to three at 86-83 with 2:50 remaining, but Curtis Stinson, Efevberha and Nick Murphy scored the next seven points of the game to give the Energy their 22nd win of the season.

Efevberha led Iowa with 21 points while Murphy added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Gibson led Canton with 23 points while Campbell finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. The loss drops the Charge to 19-18 on the season.
