Dakota Wizards News Release
Bismarck, N.D. (Mar. 4, 2012) - In a game where both teams struggled to put the ball in the hoop, the Idaho Stampede were able to fend off a late rally by the Dakota Wizards and come away with the 86-84 win over the home team. Idaho's Paul Carter tipped in a rebound with 2.1 seconds left to give the Stampede the two point lead. Stefhon Hannah's last second three bounced off the rim as time expired. Mike Anderson came off the bench to score 14 points for the Wizards while grabbing 6 rebounds.
The Dakota Wizards came out flat as Idaho raced out to a 12-2 lead. The Wizards shot a dismal 36.4% from the field in the first quarter and found themselves down 7 heading into the second, 16-23. Idaho would continue to push their lead in the second quarter and went up by as many 15 on a Paul Carter free throw. Hannah connected on a 3-pointer and followed it up with a floating jump shot to end the half with the Wizards down 10 heading into the locker room.
Dakota was able to cut the Idaho lead to 5 early in the third quarter but the Stampede went on a 16-5 run to push their lead back to 16 late in the quarter. Anderson hit a 3-pointer from the corner and Idaho was up 11 heading into the final quarter. Dakota mounted their comeback in the fourth cutting the lead to four on back-to-back 3-pointers by Anderson and Taylor Griffin. Hannah hit a back-to-back 3's to tie the game at 84 with just under a minute remaining. Idaho got the tip in and the Wizards final attempt failed. Dakota outscored Idaho in the fourth quarter 23-14.
Warriors assignee, Jeremy Tyler, chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds in the Wizards loss.
Tony Bobbitt came off the bench for the Stampede to score a game-high 19 points. Paul Carter recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds on the night.
Dakota falls to 19-16 on the season while Idaho improves to 16-21. The same two teams square off tomorrow night at 7pm in the Bismarck Civic Center.
