Emond Continues Stellar Play, Wins UHL Goaltender of the Week
December 17, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
Marco Emond has been named the United Hockey League's Goaltender of the Week for the period ending 12-15-02. Emond went 1-1-0 over that time, recording a 2.03 GAA and a .951 save percentage.
Wednesday Emond was sparkling in a 34 save performance to shut out Rockford for his first professional donut. Emond's biggest stop came on a 2 on 0 break to keep the game scoreless in the second period. Shortly thereafter the Jackals went down and scored twice on Rockford goaltender Brant Nicklin to secure the 2-0 win.
Friday night in Missouri Emond stopped 43 of 47 River Otter shots, and played very well despite his four goals against.
"That was probably one of his best games of the season," said Jackals Head Coach Todd Brost of the 4-2 loss to Missouri. "It could have been far worse if he hadn't played so well."
Emond has picked up his play considerably lately, recording a shutout streak of 129:42 over three games, dating back to last Sunday's 2-1 win over Kalamazoo. He has stopped 127 of 132 shots over his last four appearances for a .962 save percentage to go with a 2-1-0 record.
The Jackals play a stretch of four games in four nights this week as they take on Flint Thursday, travel to Glens Falls to battle the IceHawks Friday, then return home to face Rockford Saturday and Adirondack again on Sunday in matinee action. Tickets are still available for these and all remaining Jackals home games through the Coach USA Center Box Office, open 10 am to 6 pm Monday â Friday, and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday. You may also purchase seats through all Ticket Master locations, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, or charge by phone at (607) 722-3711.
