December 17, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. â The East Coast Hockey League announced that Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Michael Haviland was named one of two head coaches for the Northern Conference All Stars in the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game. In his second season with the Boardwalk Bullies, Haviland has the Atlantic City club tied for the ECHL lead with 38 points and a 16-6-6 record, best in the Northeast Division.
Last season, Atlantic City's inaugural year and Haviland's rookie season as head coach, the Middletown, N.J., native led the Bullies to a 42-22-8 record in the regular season and a berth in the 2002 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Atlantic City defeated Charlotte, three games to two, intrastate rival Trenton, three games to none, and advanced to the Northern Conference Finals against the Dayton Bombers. As a credit to his unprecedented success as a rookie head coach, Haviland was named ECHL Head Coach of the Year by The Hockey News.
Haviland joined the Bullies after serving two seasons as assistant coach with the Trenton Titans, helping the Titans advance to the Northern Conference Finals of the 2000 Kelly Cup Playoffs in the team's first season and to the 2001 Kelly Cup Finals against the South Carolina Stingrays.
Haviland will be joined by Toledo Storm Head Coach Claude Noel behind the bench for the Northern Conference, and Arkansas' Chris Cichocki and Florida's Gerry Fleming will lead the Southern Conference.
The starting lineup and roster for the Northern Conference All-Star Team will be announced Wednesday, December 18, and the starting lineup and roster for the Southern Conference All-Star Team will be announced Thursday, December 19.
The 2002 Kelly Cup Playoffs Northeast Division Champion Boardwalk Bullies play at Boardwalk Hall. Season tickets and partial plans for the 2002-03 regular season are on sale by calling (609) 348-PUCK.
