Salt Lake Bees News Release
The El Paso Chihuahuas prevailed against the Salt Lake Bees 9-7 in extra innings in front of 10,170 fans at Smith's Ballpark on Friday night.
Austin Allen hit two home runs for the Chihuahuas including a lead-off homer in the top of the 10th to put El Paso ahead and the Bees were unable to answer in the bottom half of the inning. Salt Lake broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning as Michael Hermosillo hit a solo home run to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. In the next frame, Bees starter JC Ramirez surrendered three runs on four hits after not allowing a hit in the first four innings. The Bees offense tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth as Brennon Lund clubbed a RBI-triple and Ty Kelly hit a sacrifice fly and then got back in front in the sixth 6-3 with Jared Walsh giving the Bees the go-ahead RBI-single. Matt Ball came in relief for Ramirez and gave up four runs on two two-run home runs in the eighth inning to allow El Paso to jump to a 7-6 advantage before Roberto Pena led off the bottom of the ninth with a double and later scored on a Taylor Ward RBI single.
The Bees offense used 14 hits to plate seven runs as four different Salt Lake players collected multi-hit games. Leading the Salt Lake offense was Wilfredo Tovar who went 4-for-5 with one RBI, while Lund drove in a pair of runs. With a solo home run in the contest, Hermosillo has hit a homer in two consecutive games. On the pitching side, Ramirez had a quality start after going six innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three as he continued his Major League rehabilitation assignment.
Fireworks will follow the game on Saturday night between the Bees and Chihuahuas with first pitch coming at 6:35 p.m. The two teams will wrap up the four game series at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday before heading into the All-Star Break on Monday.
