Eighth Inning Dooms Aviators

LOVES PARK, IL- The Rockford Aviators (21-24) presented by Pearson, surrendered a three run lead twice, as they fell to the Gateway Grizzlies (31-16) 7-6.

Josh Slaats got the start for the Aviators and pitched six innings, allowing ten hits and three runs. He would end up with a no decision.

Ja'Vaun West got the start for the Grizzlies and would pitch 6.2 innings, allowing nine hits and six runs. He also earned a no decision.

The Aviators were the first to score as Tyger Pederson hit a RBI double that scored Edgar Corcino. Ryan Breen would follow with 2-run homerun, his first of the season, increasing the Aviators lead 3-0.

The Grizzlies answered back in the fourth inning. Michael Wing hit a homerun of his own that cut the Aviators lead to two. Madison Beaird then hit a 2-run RBI double that tied the game at 3-3.

The Aviators continued to hit the ball well the rest of the game. Kenny Bryant drove in another run in the sixth inning to give the Aviators a 4-3 advantage.

Tanner Witt hit a RBI single in the seventh and Danny Gonzalez joined the action as he hit a RBI double to extend the Aviators lead to 6-3.

The Grizzlies would not surrender, however as, In the eighth inning, they rallied back with four runs to give them their first lead of the game 7-6.

The Aviators will wrap up their series with the Gateway Grizzlies tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Fans will want to come out to the stadium and enjoy $1 domestic drafts and $2 domestic bottles courtesy of our friends at Oscar's Pub & Grill.
