River City Rascals News Release
River City comes back with a vengeance, as their offense explodes to score 14 runs on RBIs courtesy of Williams, Morales, Butler, Kometani, Crespo, Redal, Crawford, and Hansen.
In game two of the series against Schaumburg, Brook would send veteran Tommy Mendoza to the bump to oppose the Boomers' righty, Cal Bowling. After a scoreless top of the first, two early errors by the Boomers' defense gave River City two more chances then they needed, as they put a huge six-spot on the board with RBIs courtesy of Saxon Butler, Zach Kometani, Curran Redal, Evan Crawford, and Brian Hansen.
The game would remain uneventful thereafter, until the top of the third when the Boomers would cut the lead in half on one swing of the bat- a three-run home run by rightfielder Justin Vasquez. The Rascals then returned fire in the bottom of the fourth with a homer of their own- a two-run shot to centerfield by Zach Kometani, making the score 8-3 River City. Two more would then score on bases-loaded walks to Eric Williams and Johnny Morales- making it 10-3 Rascals. The Boomers' starter Cal Bowling therefore, made it through 3.2 while allowing ten runs- seven earned- on nine hits.
The Rascals would then tack on another insurance run in the bottom of the fifth courtesy of a two-out RBI double by Curran Redal to make it an 11-3 ballgame after five. The rout would continue, believe it or not, in the bottom of the sixth as the Rascals pushed across three more on RBI knocks by Kometani and Crespo to make the score 14-3 River City after six.
Mendoza's night would then come to an end after seven innings- allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five and walking two. Both Trey Lambert and Paul Hovzdovic- making his professional debut- threw a solid shutout inning out of the pen to finish off the game, giving River City the victory 14-3 in game two. The win therefore, went to starter Tommy Mendoza with the loss going to his counterpart, Cal Bowling.
