Efevberha Leads Energy to 111-88 Win Over Ft. Wayne

DES MOINES, IA. Feb. 21, 2012- The 2011 NBA D-League Champion Iowa Energy will head into the All-Star break on a two game win streak after downing the Ft. Wayne Mad Ants 111-88 Tuesday night. Iowa led the entire game in completing the two-game sweep of the Mad Ants.

Iowa scorched the nets early, taking a 32-24 lead after the 1st quarter. Ft. Wayne fought back in the 2nd quarter, narrowing the margin to 50-45 on a Ron Howard buzzer-beating layup to give the visitors some momentum heading into the locker room.

A 6-0 run midway through the 3rd quarter, capped by a Mike Efevberha dunk, put the Energy up 70-59 with 3:32 remaining. Prior to the score, Ft. Wayne's Sadiel Rojas landed awkwardly after a dunk attempt. After being tended to by team doctors, Rojas was transported to a local hospital to determine the extent of his injuries.

After the 20 minute delay, Ft. Wayne rattled off five straight points to draw to within 70-64. With the momentum seeming to have switched back in favor of the Mad Ants, the Energy went on a 6-1 run to reclaim a commanding 76-65 lead.

The 4th quarter was all Energy as the Eastern Conference leaders outscored Ft. Wayne 33-18 to coast to the 111-88 victory. The win is the 21st of the season for Iowa, which improves to 21-11 on the year. Ft. Wayne falls to 10-25 on the season, and heads into the break with a nine game losing streak.

Efevberha led Iowa with 25 points and 15 rebounds while Andrew Drevo added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Curtis Stinson contributed 19 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists in the game for the Energy, who outrebounded Ft. Wayne 56 to 37 in the game. Moses Ehambe (15 points), Nick Murphy (12) and Patrick Ewing Jr. (11) also reached double-figure scoring for Iowa in the game.

Ron Howard led Ft. Wayne with 22 points and 9 rebounds while Darnell Lazare added 20 points and 8 rebounds.
