
Edmonton Recalls Paajarvi

Oklahoma City - The Edmonton Oilers recalled forward Magnus Paajarvi from the Oklahoma City Barons, Oilers General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today. In separate transactions, the Oilers assigned forward Cameron Abney and loaned defenseman Ryan Lowery to the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL, Barons General Manager Bill Scott announced today.
Paajarvi, 20, was assigned to Oklahoma City on January 24 and has a goal and nine assists in 14 games with the Barons. In 33 games with the Oilers this season he had four assists. The 6-2, 204-pound Norrkoping, Sweden native was selected by Edmonton in the 1st round, (10th overall) at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and played in 80 games last season collecting 34 points (15G, 19A).
Abney was recalled by Oklahoma City on January 1. He has appeared in 12 games with the Barons, serving 24 penalty minutes. The 6-5, 205-pounder from Aldergrove, B.C., native was the Oilers 3rd round choice (82nd overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He returns to Stockton where he has played in 24 games, scoring five points (2-3-5) and serving 124 penalty minutes.
Lowery, a 5-11, 190-pounder from Inverness, Illinois, has appeared in 26 games with the Barons this season, registering seven points (1-6-7). Prior to turning pro, Lowery played four seasons at Colorado College where he scored 46 points (7-39-46) in 152 games with the Miners. Lowery played parts two seasons in the United States Junior Hockey League with the Lincoln Stars.
Oklahoma City hits the road for two games this weekend against the Abbotsford Heat, the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames. Thursday evening, the Barons will skate at the Scotiabank Saddledome, home of the Calgary Flames. This marks the second straight season the Heat have hosted the Barons in their parent club's home rink. Faceoff is set for 8 p.m. (ct). Saturday, the teams finish their regular season series in Abbotsford. Faceoff is set for 9 p.m. (ct).
