Edmonton Assigns Goaltender Olivier Roy to Thunder

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League, announced Edmonton has assigned goaltender Olivier Roy (WAH, Oh-liv-EE-yay) to the Thunder from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.

Roy will join the Thunder in time for tomorrow's home game at 7:30 p.m. against the Ontario Reign at Stockton Arena.

The 6-foot and 180 pound goaltender is 3-1-0 with the Thunder in four appearances this season, collecting one shutout, a save percentage of .962 and a 1.24 goals against average. He has also appeared in 22 games this season with Oklahoma City, notching a record of 9-9-1, a .902 save percentage and a 2.77 goals against average.

Roy, 21, has a 23-23-5 lifetime record with the Thunder along with five shutouts, a .927 save percentage and a 2.39 goals against average in two seasons (2011-13).

Selected in the fifth round (133rd overall) by Edmonton in the 2009 NHL"ˆEntry Draft, Roy was ranked as the second highest North American goaltender by the Central Scouting Bureau before the draft and he represented Canada at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships.

He appeared in 200 games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with"ˆCape"ˆBreton and Acadie-Bathurst going 123-57-8 with 14 shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .906. Roy was named to the Canadian Hockey League All-Rookie Team and received the QMJHL Rookie of the Year award in 2007-08.

Stockton returns to play tonight (7:00 p.m.) in a road game against the Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
