Phillips to Work 1,000th and Final ECHL Game on Saturday

March 15, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced on Friday that linesman Brad Phillips will work his 1,000th, and final, ECHL game on Saturday in Toledo, Ohio as the Walleye host Wheeling Nailers.

In his 15th season as an on-ice official, Phillips worked his first ECHL game in October 1998 along with referee Bryan Graham and linesman Nygel Pelletier.

Phillips joins current ECHL Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Ernst, who was a referee in the league from 1991-2006, and former ECHL linesman Norm Eberle, who worked in the league from 1989-2006, as the only officials to reach the 1,000 game milestone in the 25-year history of the ECHL.

"On behalf of the ECHL, we would like to thank Brad for his dedication and hard work in the ECHL for the last 15 years, and congratulate him on reaching this milestone," said ECHL Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Ernst. "Brad has been a very good linesman in the ECHL for a long time. His number of Finals appearances speak to the official Brad was in the ECHL and his passion and dedication for the ECHL and his mentoring of the younger officials has been a big asset as well."

"My experiences in the ECHL have been nothing short of tremendous," Phillips said. "It is been a great time meeting people along the way who have become long-time friends. I also owe the ECHL for affording me the opportunity to meet my wife. She has provided me a tremendous amount of support during our nearly 11 years of marriage."

Phillips worked the 2001 ECHL All-Star Game in Arkansas, and he has worked nine Kelly Cup Finals, the most of any linesman in ECHL history.

There are 26 former ECHL officials scheduled to work as part of the NHL officiating team in 2012-13 with referees Darcy Burchell, Francis Charron, Ghislain Hebert, Jean Hebert, Marc Joannette, Trent Knorr, Mike Leggo, Dave Lewis, T.J. Luxmore, Wes McCauley, Jon McIsaac, Dean Morton, Dan O'Rourke, Brian Pochmara, Kevin Pollock, Kyle Rehman, Chris Rooney, Graham Skilliter, Justin St. Pierre and Ian Walsh, and linesmen Steve Barton, Matt MacPherson, Brian Mach, Tim Nowak, Bryan Pancich and Jay Sharrers.
