Texas Stars News Release
DES MOINES - A last-second goal by the Iowa Wild forced overtime, but Nick Ebert's second goal of the game proved to be the game-winner as the Texas Stars picked up a 3-2 road win on Friday in front of 8,508 fans in attendance at Wells Fargo Arena.
Travis Morin set up Ebert's winner on a feed in front for a deflection goal. Landon Bow stopped 26 shots in net and earned the win after making his fourth consecutive start for the Stars (20-15-1-2). Sam Anas scored the tying marker with 5.3 seconds left in regulation on a rebound chance for the Wild (18-19-4-1) with the extra attacker on the ice.
Texas and Iowa close out their weekend set on Saturday at 7 p.m. CST.
Trailing 1-0 entering the third, the Stars finally broke through Wild netminder Alex Stalock on Matt Mangene's fifth of the season at 9:03. Mangene's rush through the neutral zone carried him around Dylan Labbe for a partial breakaway before slipping home the Stars' first goal on a backhand shot. 20 seconds later, Ebert's blast from the top of the right circle beat a screened Stalock to give Texas the 2-1 lead.
Anas' tying goal in the final seconds was his seventh of the season.
Gemel Smith and Matej Stransky each assisted on Mangene's goal to extend their point streaks to four games. Texas' Mattias Backman appeared in the 300th game of his pro career. The win was also the 100th in the AHL coaching career of Derek Laxdal for the Stars.
Iowa's Kurtis Gabriel opened up the scoring at 13:28 of the first on a rebound goal. Stalock stopped 24 of 27 shots in the loss for the Wild.
Texas finished 0-for-5 on the power play. Iowa was 0-for-4.
