Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Jeremy Morin and Yanni Gourde each netted a goal against the Binghamton Senators, but it wasn't enough and the Syracuse Crunch fell, 4-2, at the War Memorial Arena tonight.
The Senators were first on the board less than three minutes into the game. Syracuse came back to tie it once, but could not catch Binghamton who scored three more times to edge the Crunch and move them to 20-11-3-5 on the season. The loss puts the Crunch at 2-1-0-1 in the 10-game season series against the Senators.
Kristers Gudlevskis blocked 19-of-22 shots for the Crunch. Matt O'Connor turned aside 34-of-36 in net for the Senators. Syracuse went 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, but gave up a shorthanded goal during each of their two power play opportunities.
The Senators struck first just 2:40 into the first period. Alex Krushelnyski carried the puck into the zone and shot from the crease to beat Gudlevskis.
The Crunch struck back with 11:52 to go in the first. Tanner Richard won the faceoff and sent it right to Morin. The Senators intercepted, but lost possession. Richard was able to tap it back for Morin to fired from the slot and even the score. Daniel Walcott earned a point for the secondary assist.
Just 2:25 into the second period, the Senators regained the lead with a shorthanded marker. Phil Varone chased the puck from the Senators zone and scored on the breakaway. Varone extended the Senators' lead with another shorthanded goal with 9:23 remaining in the third period. He gained possession in the neutral zone and fired on another breakaway to beat Gudlevskis for the second time.
Gourde took one back with 2:53 remaining the third period. Morin passed to the point for Conacher to fire on net. Gourde tipped it in from the crease to cut the lead, 3-2.
The Senators netted their last goal of the game with 41 seconds left in the contest when Max McCormick threw it into the empty net.
The Crunch host the Utica Comets tomorrow at 7 p.m.
