The San Jose Earthquakes extended their unbeaten streak to three matches (1-0-2) after back-to-back road draws against Seattle Sounders FC (2-2) and FC Dallas (0-0) on Wednesday, April 24 and Saturday, April 27, respectively. The Quakes are currently tied for the third longest active unbeaten streak in Major League Soccer (LA - 7; NYC - 5; FCD - 3).
The Earthquakes are back at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, May 4 for their third match of the season against an Eastern Conference opponent, FC Cincinnati. Saturday, presented by PetersenDean, will mark San Jose's first-ever match against FC Cincinnati, which is in its inaugural MLS season. Saturday will also represent the Quakes' annual Mexican Heritage Night.
Saturday's match is set for 6:45 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF. Tickets for the match can purchased here.
EARTHQUAKES NOTES
TEAM SPECIFIC
San Jose is currently in the midst of a three-match unbeaten streak (1-0-2). The last time the Quakes earned 5+ points during a three-match unbeaten streak was in their final three contests of the 2017 regular season (2-0-1).
The Quakes defeated SKC 4-1 (4/20), tied SEA 2-2 (4/24) and tied FCD 0-0 (4/27). The last time the Quakes went undefeated in three matches that took place in the span of eight days was in 2015 when they won three matches from August 14-22 (vs. COL 1-0, at SKC 5-0, at DC 2-0).
San Jose is currently tied for the third longest active unbeaten streak in Major League Soccer (LA - 7; NYC - 5; FCD - 3).
On Saturday, the Quakes earned their first shutout on the road since their 3-0 win over LA Galaxy at StubHub Center on Aug. 27, 2017.
The Earthquakes have now earned at least one point in four of the last five matches. The last time Quakes accomplished this feat during a single season was from April 29 - May 20, 2017 (3-1-1).
PLAYER SPECIFIC
Shea Salinas scored his third and fourth goals of the season and 16th and 17th of his MLS career on Wednesday in Seattle, setting a new single-season career-high in goals.
Last Wednesday marked the first multi-goal game of Salinas' MLS career, which has spanned to 291 appearances.
Salinas has scored twice as many goals through seven appearances in 2019 (4) as he did across 83 appearances from 2016-18 (2).
Salinas scored in back-to-back matches (vs. SKC 4/20; at SEA 4/24) for the second time in his career and first time since August of 2015. His four goals in April also marks the first time that he has tallied more than two goals in a single calendar month.
Paul Marie made his first MLS start on Wednesday in Seattle.
Magnus Eriksson was credited with the assist on Salinas' first goal in Seattle. It marked his third of the season, equaling last season's total, and sixth of his MLS career.
Cristian Espinoza was credited with the assist on Salinas' second goal in Seattle. It marked his second of the season and his MLS career.
VS. FC DALLAS (TIED 0-0 ON 4/27)
The Earthquakes now hold a 28-20-16 all-time record against FC Dallas.
San Jose is now 12-12-8 all-time against FC Dallas on the road.
The Earthquakes are just the second road team this season to earn a point against FC Dallas, who held a 3-0-1 home record heading into Saturday.
The Earthquakes extended their unbeaten streak against FC Dallas to five matches (3-0-2) and haven't lost to the Texas side since July 2016.
The Quakes have only conceded more than a single goal to FC Dallas once in their last seven meetings (W 4-3 on 8/29/18).
Saturday marked the club's second shutout of the 2019 season and first since April 6 vs. POR (W 3-0).
VS. SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC (TIED 2-2 ON 4/24)
The Earthquakes now hold a 10-10-6 all-time record against Seattle Sounders FC.
San Jose is now 5-8-2 all-time against Seattle Sounders FC on the road.
The draw snaps a seven-game home winning streak for Sounders FC.
San Jose became just the second road team to earn at least one point at CenturyLink Field since last June.
