Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo forward Mauro Manotas was named to the Audi MLS Team of the Week, the league announced earlier today.
Manotas was a key factor in Houston's 2-0 win over Columbus Crew SC on Saturday night, scoring the winning goal in the third minute of play and setting up teammate Tomás MartÃnez for the second goal in the 55th minute. The win improved the Dynamo to 5-1-1 on the year, continuing the team's red-hot start to the 2019 season.
The goal for Manotas was his team-leading fifth across all competitions this year, and his third in MLS play. Two of his three goals in the league this year have been game-winners, upping his career total in that category to six. The 23-year-old continues his rapid ascent up the club's all-time scoring charts, moving to within three goals of Dynamo legend Brad Davis (41) for third in club history.
This is the first Audi MLS Team of the Week honor for Manotas this year, and his second this year in all competitions. He was named to the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Team of the Week on Feb. 29 after he came off the bench to score a pair of goals in Houston's 2-1 win over CD Guastatoya in the Champions League Round of 16.
Manotas becomes the fifth Dynamo player to be named to the Team of the Week. Forward Alberth Elis has been named to the Team of the Week twice this season after a pair of dominant performances in which he scored, created or assisted on seven combined goals in wins over Vancouver (Week 3) and Colorado (Week 5).
Midfielder Tomás MartÃnez earned Team of the Week honors in Week 7, and forward Memo Rodriguez was named to the Team of the Week bench after his brace against the Vancouver Whitecaps in Week 3. Defender Kiki Struna was named to the Team of the Week after making his MLS debut in a 2-1 victory against the Montreal Impact in Week 2.
The Dynamo are back at home this weekend as they host their arch rivals, FC Dallas, in the first leg of the annual Texas Derby series Saturday afternoon at BBVA Compass Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CDT, and the game will be televised nationally on UniMás.
Single-game tickets for Houston Dynamo home matches start at $24 and may be purchased online at HoustonDynamo.com, by phone at 713-276-4625 (GOAL) or at the stadium box office.
