San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes will celebrate 50 years of Hip-Hop music featuring Bay Area rap icons Too $hort, Mistah FAB, and LaRussell in a halftime show during the California Clasico vs. the LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, July 1 (7:30 p.m. PT), presented by Intermedia.
Additional pregame activities to celebrate the American music genre include live music from Bay Area DJ Chuy Gomez, youth performers, dancers, and activations from Hip Hop For Change - an Oakland-based non-profit that creates arts programs and education for youth through Hip-Hop culture.
Tickets for the California Clasico are now on sale and can be purchased on Ticketmaster.com. Tickets for groups of 10 or more can be purchased by calling the Earthquakes Front Office at (408) 556-7700 or by filling out an online form here. Groups can also request more information on a pre-game BBQ in the Chuck Taylor Grove picnic area by filling out the form above.
Too $hort boasts a career as one of the most influential rappers of all-time, with a career spanning five decades starting in the 1980s. He is a pioneer of West Coast rap with six consecutive platinum albums and prolific songs "Blow the Whistle" and "Life is ...Too $hort". His home city of Oakland honored him last year for his achievements with his own day and street name, "Too $hort Way".
Multi-platinum songwriter, producer, and rapper Mistah F.A.B. is credited as a pioneer of the Bay Area Hyphy Movement in the early 2000s with iconic records such as N.E.W. Oakland, Sideshow, and Super Sic Wit It. An Oakland native, Mistah F.A.B. is a community leader focused on investing in both the arts and the next generation of his city.
West Coast Rapper LaRussell is a Vallejo native with a rapidly growing fanbase and notable songs "Again" and "Boss Market Blues". Aside from music, LaRussell is also the founder of "Good Compenny", an independent initiative operated by creatives to promote up-and-coming Bay Area artists.
Hip-Hop music originated in New York in 1973 and celebrates 50 years this summer. The American art form has significant ties in the Bay Area dating back to the 1970s. Along with the performers coming to the California Clasico, numerous artists representing the Bay Area have made a significant impact on Hip-Hop, including E-40, Tupac Shakur, Digital Underground, Souls of Mischief, and Mac Dre, among others. Hip-Hop has transcended in Northern California through the decades, and the Earthquakes will celebrate 50 years of what is now one of the most streamed genres globally.
