San Jose Earthquakes News Release
San Jose (Tuesday, January 27, 2003) - The MLS Cup Champion San Jose Earthquakes today announced the regular season schedule for the 2004 MLS season. For the fourth consecutive season, the Quakes open on the road as they take on Freddy Adu and D.C. United on Saturday, April 3 at RFK Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on ABC at 1:00 p.m. PT. The team then returns home to face the Chicago Fire in a rematch of the 2003 MLS Cup on Saturday, April 10 at Spartan Stadium.
The Quakes fan-friendly 15-game home schedule consists of 13 Saturday matches and just two Wednesday night games. Highlights include Saturday, May 1 when Adu makes his first Bay Area appearance as the Quakes face D.C. United and an international exhibition against Canada, who is led by former San Jose head coach Frank Yallop. Overall, the Quakes play 25 of their 30 matches on Saturdays and 26 of their matches on weekends.
San Jose does not play more than two consecutive games on the road all season, but does have a four-game homestand at the end of August and beginning of September in the heart of the playoff drive. The team plays its final six matches against Western Conference opposition, including two matches in that span against their biggest rival, the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sept. 11 and Sept. 25.
The game times and national and local television schedules will be released at a later date.
