MetroStars 2004 schedule unveiled

SECAUCUS, NJ (Tuesday, January 27, 2004) - The MetroStars today announced their 2004 MLS regular season schedule, which features the team playing 14 of its 15 home games on either Saturdays or Sundays from April 3 through October 16. The MetroStars will kickoff the season on Saturday, April 3 at the Columbus Crew in Columbus, OH at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The MetroStars, entering their ninth MLS season, will host arch-rival D.C. United and 14-year-old phenom Freddy Adu on Saturday, April 17 in the 2004 home opener at Giants Stadium. The teams square off again in East Rutherford, NJ on Saturday, October 2.

MetroStars Head Coach Bob Bradley will lead the Metros into the 2004 season with 11 games slated for Saturdays, three for Sundays, and one Wednesday contest.

The defending MLS Cup Champion San Jose Earthquakes will make their lone Giants Stadium appearance when they visit the MetroStars on Saturday, July 10. New Jersey native Tony Meola, 2003 MLS/Honda MVP Preki and the Kansas City Wizards will also make one appearance at Giants Stadium on Sunday, May 30.

The 2003 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Champion Chicago Fire pays two visits to the MetroStars on Saturday, May 15 and Saturday, July 17 in rematches of the 2003 Open Cup Final. The Metros will look to avenge the 1-0 loss at Giants Stadium last October.

The MetroStars end the 2004 regular season with a marquee match-up against D.C. United at RFK Stadium on October 16.
