Early 7-Run Lead Not Enough in Walk-Off Loss

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Hagerstown Suns completed a comeback from 7-0 down to defeat the BlueClaws 11-9 with a walk-off home run in the 10th inning Thursday night.

Matthew Skole connected on a two-run homer to drive home Jason Martinson and give the Suns the win which extended the BlueClaws' losing streak to three games. Skole finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI, three runs scored and three walks. He grounded out to second base in his at-bat and then reached base in his final five plate appearances.

The 'Claws scored six times in the 1st inning and once more in the 3rd inning to take a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the 3rd inning. A six-run inning in the 3rd by Hagerstown cut the BlueClaws lead to 7-6, and Hagerstown took their first lead of the ballgame in the 6th inning with two runs to make it 9-8.

Lakewood scored once in the top of the 7th inning on an Aaron Altherr sacrifice fly to tie the game 9-9, but the BlueClaws never regained the lead.

Starting pitcher Colin Kleven entered the 3rd inning with a 7-0 lead but allowed seven of the first eight batters in the inning to reach base. He would exit the game after 2.2 innings with five hits, four walks and six runs allowed-all earned.

Lakewood and Hagerstown will continue their four-game series Friday night at Municipal Stadium. Lino Martinez (2-0, 3.78 ERA) will take the mound for the BlueClaws and will be opposed by Hagerstown's Wirkin Estevez (1-0, 8.16 ERA). These two squared-off Sunday at FirstEnergy Park in a 7-4 BlueClaws win. First pitch for Friday night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
