Colorado Eagles News Release
BROOMFIELD, CO- The Colorado Eagles beat the Rocky Mountain Rage Wednesday night 3-1 at the Broomfield Event Center in a tightly checked contest. Colorado bounced back from a disappointing 7-2 loss the last time they visited Broomfield and beat the Rage behind Scott Polaski's game winning goal. The Eagles are now 6-0 when Polaski scores a point in a game. Marco Emond saved 30 of 31 shots in his 11th win of the season as the Eagles improved their Northwest Division-leading record to 13-4-0. They head home to the Budweiser Events Center for two games this weekend against the Amarillo Gorillas.
The teams skated to a scoreless first period although Rocky Mountain out shot Colorado 9-5. Both teams were whistled for four minor penalties each and both went 0-3 on the power play. It marked the first period all season that the Eagles have skated scoreless in the opening frame.
Ed McGrane tallied the first goal of the game when he tipped a loose puck into the net that was resting on the goalline behind Rage goaltender David Guerrera. That goal came at the 3:39 mark of the second period and McGrane was assisted by Ryan Tobler and Brad Williamson. At the 11:25 mark, Scott Polaski took a feed from Ryan Tobler, went far post and beat Rage goaltender David Guerrera to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. The goal marked the first power play goal of the night for either team, however the Rage bounced back and made it a one-goal game on an unassisted tally by Nathan Rosychuk. Colorado finished the period out shooting the Rage 17-11.
In a tightly checked third period, the Eagles defense played strong and held on to the one-goal game until Riley Nelson capped the game with an empty net goal with 10 seconds remaining in the contest. Rocky Mountain out shot the Eagles 11-7 in the final frame but couldn't get but one puck past Eagles goaltender all game. Colorado finished the game 1-7 on the power play and killed all eight of the Rage chances.
NOTES:
Brad Williamson played in his 200th game with the Eagles. He is the first player in Eagles history to reach 200 games.
