
Eagles Defeat Rage 3-1

LOVELAND, Colo.- The Colorado Eagles defeated the Rocky Mountain Rage for the seventh straight time, 3-1, at the Budweiser Events Center. The game was the 12th and final meeting of the season between the two teams and the Eagles won 10 of the 12 games including the last five at the BEC. Steve Haddon, Seth Leonard and Riley Nelson all scored goals for the Eagles and Marco Emond saved 32 of 33 shots in his 24th win of the season. David Guerrera saved 43 of 46 shots in net for the Rage who fall to 14-34-5 and remain in fourth place in the Northwest Division. The Eagles are the first team to 40 wins in the Central Hockey League with a record of 40-14-0. Colorado will head to the road next week for games in Wichita on Wednesday, Laredo on Friday and Austin on Saturday.
The Eagles and Rage skated to a scoreless first period. Each team had two chances on the power play and Colorado out shot Rocky Mountain 11-10 in the period.
Colorado's Steve Haddon continued his scoring ways when he beat Rage goaltender David Guerrera on a centering pass from Scott Polaski. Haddon has now scored in six straight games including a goal in three straight games. Prior to this six game scoring streak, Haddon had scored in just six games in his first 28. Colorao held on to the 1-0 leading going into the second intermission.
It took the Rage just 1:31 into the third period to tie the game. Craig Olynick put a shot on goal from just inside the blueline that deflected off the skate of Chip Dunleavy for their first goal of the game. The Eagles answered at the 6:36 mark of the period on Seth Leonard's 19th goal of the season when he picked up a pass at the from Chris Hartsburg and beat Guerrera. It would turn out to be the game-winning goal as the Eagles added one more late in the third on Riley Nelson's 36th goal of the season. Nelson is one goal short of his career-high and in second in the league in goals scored. Colorado poured on 24 shots in the final period compared to Rocky Mountain's eight. Final score: Eagles 3 - Rage 1.
