Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo.- The Colorado Eagles and Water Valley donated a total of $50,000 to Nikko Landeros and Tyler Carron, two Berthoud High School students who were recently involved in a serious car accident. Landeros and Carron accepted a check presented by Martin Lind, Colorado Eagles Advisory Board Chairman and President of Water Valley, and Eagles President Ralph Backstrom.
The initial amount of $12,500 was raised during a Colorado Eagles Meadow Gold Jammin' Jersey Auction on February 16th. The Colorado Eagles pledged to match the Meadow Gold Jammin' Jersey Auction sum and doubled the total to $25,000. To further the commitment, Water Valley again doubled the donation for a grand total of $50,000.
The official donation was given prior to the puck dropping at the Eagles' game against the Rocky Mountain Rage on Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center. The Eagles' fans played a major role in setting the bar for the first donation sum by participating in the Meadow Gold Jammin' Jersey Auction. Lind thanked the fans during a pre-game presentation on Saturday.
"Not only do we have the greatest fans in professional sports, but we have the greatest family in professional sports," Lind said.
The donation to the high school students was made in an effort to provide aid for their unexpected medical expenses. Both of the boys lost their legs when a car hit them on January 15, 2007 while they were changing a tire on the side of the road. Landeros and Carron were able to attend the game and were accompanied by family and friends.
