December 1, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, CO- The Central Hockey League announced today that Colorado Eagles center Riley Nelson has been named CHL Sher-Wood Player of the Month for the month of November.
The Eagles' assistant captain posted five multiple-point games during November, including a season-high five-point outing in a 6-0 win over the Rocky Mountain Rage on November 18th. Although he did not register a power play goal during the month, he assisted on seven scores with the man advantage. Nelson's shorthanded prowess made the difference for the Eagles in which he had a CHL-high four shorthanded goals and set up another three goals while on the penalty kill. The 5'9", 175-pound native of Cranbrook, British Columbia scored the game-winning goal against Tulsa on November 7th in the Eagles 3-2 comeback victory over the Oilers and his +11 was the best plus/minus mark in the CHL during the month of November.
Nelson is currently second on the Eagles in scoring with 25 points (9-16-25) in just 14 games played. He leads the league with a plus/minus of +14 and his five shorthanded goals on the season not only leads all players in the CHL, but other than the Eagles, no other team has scored more than four shorthanded goals as a team. He is in his fourth season with the Eagles and is second on the team's all-time scoring list behind only Greg Pankewicz with 102 goals, 158 assists and 260 points in 192 games played. He scored his 100th goal with Colorado on November 18th in a 6-0 win over the Rocky Mountain Rage. Nelson is just 10 goals shy of 200 for his professional career.
The Eagles are currently on the road for two games this weekend in Texas. They take on the Odessa Jackalopes tonight at 6:00 p.m. MST, then travel to Lubbock to take on the Cotton Kings on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. MST.
