Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - In their first of eight meetings in the month of December, the Sundogs and New Mexico Scorpions squared off in a Southwest Division contest Friday night at the Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. New Mexico skated away with the win 3-2. It would prove to be the Scorpions first win away from home this season.
The Scorpions would strike first, scoring the lone goal of the first period at the 4:52 mark. The Scorpions' Craig MacDonald would put one past Arizona netminder Chris King off the face-off on a pass from Chris Robinson. New Mexico would out shoot Arizona 12-8 in the first period.
New Mexico would go up 2-0 at 2:55 of the second period on a shot from Konrad Reeder. Lance Herauf assisted on the play. At 4:01 of the period, the Sundogs would cut the Scorpions' lead to one. In his first game with Arizona, Dan DaSilva would score on a pass from Brent Kelly. At 13:43 of the middle frame, Arizona's Jonathan Bernier and New Mexico's Kevin Harvey would square off, each trying to gain momentum for their club. Bernier would get the best of Harvey in the clash, throwing him to the ice.
New Mexico's Vladimir Hartinger would give the Scorpions their second two-goal lead of the night at 8:12 of the third period on a power play goal from Ryan McLeod and Lance Herauf. Arizona's Dan Laperriere would be called tripping at the 8:05 mark resulting in the man advantage. Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro would pull Chris King for an extra attacker with less than two minutes remaining in regulation in hopes to even up the score. At 18:52, Chris Greene would shove the puck past New Mexico netminder David Cacciola. Chris Bartolone and Dan DaSilva were credited with the assists. The move wouldn't prove to be enough as New Mexico would skate away with the 3-2 victory, their first win away from home this season.
Chris King stopped 26 of 29 shots for Arizona while Cacciola stopped 33 of 35. The Sundogs finished 0-for-3 on the man advantage while New Mexico was 1-for-6.
