Sterling goes back-to-back with Goalie of the Month award
December 1, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN --- The Central Hockey League announced today that Memphis RiverKings goalie Larry Sterling has been named the Sher-Wood CHL Goalie of the Month. It is a repeat honor for Sterling, as he was also the recipient of the October Goalie of the Month award. Sterling and the first place RiverKings play the second place Youngstown Steelhounds tonight at 7:05 at the DeSoto Civic Center.
In November, the Lake Orion, MI native made nine appearances (all starts), had a record of 7-2-0, a 2.46 GAA, a .901 save percentage and a career-high matching five game winning streak. Beyond the numbers, Sterling made several big saves in crucial situations that helped the RiverKings to their second best November record in their history. He also notched his third career shutout in a 4-0 win at Corpus Christi on November 11.
Sterling becomes the first goalie to win the monthly award in back-to-back months since Colorado's Tyler Weiman did it in December 2004 and January 2005.
For the season, Sterling is 9-2-2 with a 2.32 GAA and a .912 save percentage. His nine wins are tied for the league lead with his GAA third in the league. The RiverKings are second in the CHL in team GAA at 2.60.
Sterling is in his third pro season after playing his first two seasons with the Fort Worth Brahmas in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. Sterling signed with the RiverKings during the off-season.
Colorado's Riley Nelson was the Sher-Wood Player of the Month.
