Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - It's been "Home Sweet Home" for the Drive recently at Fluor Field. With a 3-1 victory Wednesday night over the Lexington Legends, the Drive (58-48, 19-19) won their fourth straight game at home, and improved to .500 in the second half of the regular season.
The Legends (53-55, 17-21) got on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the opening inning off Fabian Williamson (8-3). Albert Cartwright laced a one-out double and scored two batters later on Brian Pellegrini's RBI-single.
But from there the game belonged to Greenville. Williamson closed out his strong start by holding the Legends scoreless over his final four innings. The southpaw worked around three hits and two walks by inducing two double plays.
In the bottom of the second, the Drive tied the game when Pete Hissey grounded into a fielder's choice. However, the key to the play was Ryan Dent's hard takeout slide into second, breaking up the double play, allowing Shannon Wilkerson to score.
Greenville added two more runs off Jordan Lyles (6-10) in the bottom of the fourth to round out their scoring. Dent collected his second hit of the game, just missing a home run, with a two-run double off the Green Monster.
The two-run lead was all reliever Jeremy Kehrt needed to secure the victory. The right-handed Kehrt surrendered just one hit and issued one walk in the final four innings to earn his second save of the season.
The Drive and Legends meet again on Thursday in the third game of their four-game series at Fluor Field, with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Greenville's win leader, right-hander Stolmy Pimentel (9-6, 3.14 ERA), will face off against Lexington southpaw Brad Dydalewicz (6-4, 3.12 ERA).
Upstate Fest presented by State Farm continues at Fluor Field on Thursday with the celebration of Easley. In addition to tomorrow's game being Dollar Drink Night, WMYA My40 will also televise the game live. Single-game tickets, group outings, and luxury accommodations can be purchased by calling (864) 240-4500 or visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com for more information.
