Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Rome Braves 4-2 Wednesday night in front of 2,077 fans at State Mutual Stadium.
After the first three batters struck out looking the Sand Gnats got the bats going in the second inning. Josh Satin doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch, and Eric Campbell delivered a single to left scoring Satin and giving Savannah a 1-0 lead.
The Braves would score one in the third when Joel Campusano walked and three wild pitches later scored for the 1-1 tie. However, the tie wouldn't last long as Savannah took a 3-1 lead on two home runs by Josh Satin and Jean Luc Blaqueire.
Savannah added to their lead in the fifth when Sean Ratliff hit an RBI double to center pushing the lead to 4-1. That would be all the Sand Gnats would need. The Braves did score one more run in the bottom of the fifth as Adam Milligan drove in Ryan Barba who had singled and stole a base but it wouldn't be enough. Savannah pitching would hold on for the 4-2 victory.
Jeurys Familia (9-6) gets the win for Savannah and Julio Teheran (0-1) gets the loss in his Rome Braves debut. Rhiner Cruz (20) earns the save.
The Braves and the Sand Gnats will play again tomorrow night at 7 pm. It's "Dollar Drink Night" tomorrow at State Mutual Stadium. For ticket information call 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
