Intimidators Rally for 5-3 Win

CHARLESTON, WV - Jon Gilmore hit his first home run in over two months to cap a late rally and give the Intimidators a 5-3 win over West Virginia on Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park.

Gilmore's eighth inning shot off of Brian Leach (4-2) drove in a pair and gave Kannapolis its first lead of the night, 4-3. The Intimidators had been trailing, 3-0, entering the inning, but Sergio Morales had put them within one run one batter earlier with a two-RBI double.

Kenny Williams added a fifth run with a ground rule double to score Eduardo Escobar in the ninth.

The late rally got James Albury (1-0) his first win in affiliated baseball since 2005, when he was a member of the Red Sox GCL team. The Australian right-hander gave up three runs in a season-best seven innings.

West Virginia had gone ahead against Albury in booming fashion, smashing back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning. Calvin Anderson got the show going, before Quincy Latimore slugged one out to left on the very next pitch. Robbie Grossman's two-out RBI single in the seventh extended the Power lead to three.

Drew O'Neil and Dan Remenowsky each pitched hitless innings to seal the win. The save was the 18th of the season for Remenowsky.

The victory was the 60th of the season for Kannapolis, making the Intimidators the second team in the South Atlantic League to that plateau. They also are 12 games above .500 for the first time this season.
