Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Missed opportunities bite the Lakewood BlueClaws again as they fall in extras against the Lake County Captains on Wednesday afternoon 3-2 in eleven.

The BlueClaws (20-19), tied at two in seventh and in the ninth, had runners in scoring position with no outs and failed to score. They went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position in this ballgame and 1-for-15 on Tuesday.

In the eleventh, Rob Roth came into the ballgame, allowed a single to lead off the inning by Donnie Webb and he eventually scored on a wild pitch, giving the Captains (21-18) the lead for good 3-2.

Heitor Correa started the game on a sour note, allowing the first two Captains to reach and giving up two runs in the inning. The BlueClaws had a pitcher warming in the first, but Correa settled down and ended up shutting down the Captains from the second on through the sixth. He went six full, allowing two runs and striking out six.

The BlueClaws tied the game at two with two runs in the fifth. Travis Mattair led the inning off with a double and scored as a pair of groundballs moved him over and in. The second run was aided by an error by third baseman Daniel DeGeorge, and a single by D'Arby Myers.

Roth (3-2), who allowed the run in the eleventh, took the loss and the win went to Anillins Martinez (2-3) while Matthew Langwell picked up the save.

Mattair had two doubles on the day and BJ Rosenberg pitched two clean innings in the eighth and ninth, adding to his total of consecutive shutout innings. He has not allowed an earned run since May 31st, a span of 28.2 innings.

The BlueClaws and the Captains will continue their five-game series on Thursday night at 7:05. The BlueClaws will look to Trevor May (2-1) to stop their losing streak and Nick Hagadone, acquired in the trade for catcher Victor Martinez (0-2), will make his Captains debut.
