Hagerstown Suns News Release

SALISBURY, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (14-23) offense never got going against Delmarva Shorebirds (20-18) starting pitcher Nathan Moreau, as the Suns fell 6-2 on Wednesday.

Moreau (5-2) pitched seven innings and struck out nine hitters while allowing just four hits. The left-hander earned the victory as he allowed just one walk and no runs in the outing.

Delmarva got on the board early against Suns starter Patrick Lehman (0-1). Lehman allowed two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first, and another run in the second to give the Shorebirds a 3-0 lead.

After the second, Lehman, a 13th round pick in the 2009 draft by the Washington Nationals making his debut for Hagerstown, settled down. He retired the side in order in the third and fourth innings before allowing a run on two hits in the bottom of the fifth. The right-hander struck out three and did not allow a walk, though he was saddled with the loss.

The Shorebirds added an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning against reliever Austin Garrett and another run in the top of the eighth inning to take a 6-0 lead going into the top of the ninth.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Suns finally got on the board, as Steven Souza tripled to left-center field, driving in Travis Reagan. Souza scored on an RBI ground-out by Charlie Fermaint to close the gap to 6-2, but the Suns were unable continue the rally.

The Suns and Shorebirds will continue their five-game series on Thursday at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury. The series currently stands at one game apiece.

The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
