Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive (11-31, 45-66) received contributions from both the new and the old in Saturday night's 4-2 win over the Rome Braves (16-26, 40-72) at Fluor Field.
Sam Travis, the newest addition to the Drive roster, stayed hot after putting up gaudy numbers for the Lowell Spinners and collected three hits in his first game in Greenville.
The Drive also received standout performances from a pair of familiar faces, as Manuel Margot went 3-4 with a solo homer out of the leadoff spot and Teddy Stankiewicz (8-7) fired six innings to earn the victory. He allowed just three hits, one run and one walk while striking out six.
Stankiewicz traded zeroes with Rome starter Matt Marksberry (4-7) until the bottom of the fifth, when the Drive struck for a run on Tzu-Wei Lin's sacrifice fly.
The Braves quickly countered as Connor Lien drove a solo homer high over the Green Monster leading off the sixth, but the Drive scored twice against Marksberry to take the lead for good.
Travis reached on an infield single, moved to second when Franklin Guzman reached on an error, went to third on Kevin Mager's sacrifice and came in when Hector Lorenzana lined a single through a drawn-in infield. Cole Sturgeon followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Guzman to make the score 3-1.
Margot walloped a solo homer to deep left-center against Rome reliever Michael Swanner to lead off the bottom of the seventh. A Ross Wilson solo homer in the ninth cut the Greenville lead to 4-2, but German Taveras finished off the frame and recorded his second save.
The series finale begins at 4:05 on Sunday afternoon. LH Daniel McGrath (4-5, 3.84) will start for the Drive, and the Braves will send RH Steve Janas (2-4, 4.96) to the mound.
