Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville, NC--The Asheville Tourists recorded two wins on Friday night, both against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. In arguably the most enthralling game of the season, the Tourists capped off Thursday night's suspended action with an 11-10 victory in 13 innings. Friday night's original contest went the way of the T's by a score of 6-1.

On Thursday, Asheville and Greensboro played ten innings before the weather forced the action to be suspended with the score tied 10-10. On Friday, the two teams resumed play on the diamond and in the top of the 13th, Ryan McMahon connected with a two-out RBI single into centerfield. Matt Carasiti retired the Grasshoppers in the bottom half to seal the win.

The action on Thursday that led to the multi-day, extra-inning thriller was absolutely captivating. Asheville jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Greensboro rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the third. Both teams exchanged runs in the fourth but in the bottom of the seventh, the Grasshoppers belted back-to-back Home Runs to take an 8-6 lead. The Tourists cut it to 8-7 but a two-run Greensboro eighth put Asheville's backs against the wall in the ninth.

With two outs and a runner at first, Wilfredo Rodriguez clubbed a Home Run to left field making it 10-9. McMahon followed with a solo blast to left and the back-to-back long balls with the Tourists down to their final out knotted the score. In the top of the tenth, Ashley Graeter appeared to put Asheville ahead by scoring on an apparent Emerson Jimenez sacrifice fly. However, it was deemed Graeter left third base early and he was doubled off to end the inning.

As for Friday night's originally scheduled game, the Tourists rode the starting pitching performance of Antonio Senzatela. Asheville's right-hander moved his record on the season to 13-1 by pitching five frames. Senzatela limited the home team to just one run on five hits; three of them infield singles. The Tourists jumped in front 2-0 with a pair of runs in the first inning and added two more in the sixth along with another two in the eighth.

During the two games, Asheville clubbed a total of six Home Runs. Five in the first game by five different players and Jordan Patterson connected with a solo blast in the second game.

The Tourists and the Grasshoppers are back in action for the final time this regular season on Saturday evening. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm.
