Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, Ga.- Crooked numbers on the scoreboard and Robert Gsellman carried the Gnats to a doubleheader sweep of the Hickory Crawdads Saturday. The Gnats won game one 5-2 and game two 8-0.
In game two, Gsellman tossed a complete game shutout to improve to 9-5 and lower his ERA to 2.45. He allowed six hits and a walk while striking out five. It was the fourth complete game of the year for Gsellman.
The Gnats (25-16/69-38) put the game away early with a four-run second inning. Catcher Colton Plaia provided the key swing with a three-run double crushed up the right-center field gap.
Savannah, which drew seven walks in the game, added three runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth.
In game one, the Crawdads (24-18/65-46) scored first with a run in the second on a Ronald Guzman single into centerfield off starter Ricky Knapp.
However, the Gnats erased that early lead with a five-run fourth inning, capped by a two-run single by first baseman Matt Oberste. Knapp held the Crawdads to two runs, one earned, in his 5.1 innings to earn his fifth win of 2014.
The Gnats look for their third win in a row Sunday, when they hand the ball to RHP John Michael Gant (10-5, 2.72) who will take on Collin Wiles (1-2, 4.55).
Children 12 and under will receive free hot dog, chips, and soda as part of Kia Country Kids Eat Free. Fans are also encouraged to bring their dogs along with them as part of TailsSpin Bark in the Park. Fans must bring proof of up-to-date vaccinations in order to be admitted to the ballpark.
