Dragons Joe Boyle Wins MWL Pitcher of the Week Award

DAYTON, OHIO - Dayton Dragons starting pitcher Joe Boyle has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 23-29.

Boyle was the Dragons pitcher on Tuesday, May 24 at West Michigan and fired six no-hit innings to earn the victory in a 10-1 Dragons win. He walked three and struck out eight while lowering his earned run average for the year to 0.53.

Boyle has had an amazing start to the season for the Dragons. Over seven starts covering 33.2 innings, he has allowed only six base hits, limiting opponents to a combined batting average of .058. He has given up only two runs with 51 strikeouts.

Boyle has allowed only two hits to right-handed batters all season (2 for 56, 31 SO). Opponents are 2 for 44 against Boyle with men on base and 1 for 20 with men in scoring position.

Boyle is a native of Goshen, Kentucky, where he attended North Oldham High School. He played collegiately at Notre Dame before being signed by the Cincinnati Reds as a fifth round draft pick in 2020.

Boyle will start for the Dragons tonight in the opener to a six-game series against the South Bend Cubs at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. The series continues with games through Sunday.
