Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Davenport, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits dropped their series opener against the Beloit Sky Carp on Tuesday, losing 6-2 at Modern Woodmen Park.
The River Bandits worked from an early hole as the Sky Carp were lifted to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, notching four hits against Bandits' starter Adrian Alcantara, including RBI singles from Will Banfield and Davis Bradshaw.
Peyton Wilson recorded the only hit and the only run scored against Beloit starter, M.D. Johnson, who surrendered a solo home run to the infielder in the second to make it a one-run Q.C. deficit.
While Alcantara settled in and stranded four base runners in scoreless second, third, and fourth innings, a two-out double off the bat of Bradshaw made it a 3-1 lead for the visitors and ended the day for the righty after 4.2 innings.
After Johnson concluded his 5.0-inning performance by striking out the side in the fifth, Matt Givin paired with Quad Cities' Caden Monke for a scoreless sixth, but the latter gave up a three-run home run to Ynmanol Marinez in the seventh, piling the Bandits' deficit to 6-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Quad Cities collected three of their four hits, with Tyler Tolbert coming through with a two-out RBI single and plating Herard Gonzalez with a run-scoring poke, but Givin would strand two men aboard to end the inning.
Patrick Smith and Anderson Paulino each gave the Bandits a scoreless frame in the eighth and ninth after taking over for Monke, but Robinson Martinez matched with two perfect innings of his own to close out the contest.
Johnson (3-5), who struck out nine, got the win for the Sky Carp in game one, while Alcantara (2-3) got tagged with the loss, allowing three runs and a career-high 10 hits.
The Bandits will look to even up the series tomorrow back at Modern Woodmen Park and will start Noah Murdock (0-1, 5.09) against Beloit's Patrick Monteverde (1-1, 2.80). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
